Tools from WREN 2008-09 Projects are posted
Looking for some great examples of ways to reach people in your community
about water resources? Check out the outreach tools developed this past year with
WREN funding.....
Some highlights:
Reading Area Community College's campaign "Get Your Fill" to promote refillable water bottles using "Clean,Safe, Economical, Tastes Great" Reading Area drinking water.
Also in Berks County, Reading Area Water Authority installed drinking water supply signs.
And Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy developed a campaign for homeowner associations on maintaining stormwater basins.
McKean County's Pharmaceutical Collection program was a great success and demonstrated the importance of partnerships;
Nether Providence Township installed two demonstration rain gardens;
Warrington Township EAC naturalized an existing detention basin.
Greater Johnstown Water Authority developed an original water "jeopardy" game.

Coldwater Conservation Grants Available
The
Coldwater Heritage Partnership (CHP) has announced the opening of the Coldwater
Conservation Grants Program to protect and conserve the health of
Pennsylvania's coldwater ecosystems. Applications will be accepted
through December 18, 2009.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation Challenges Permits for Gas Drilling
When the Pennsylvania Department of Environment
Protection (DEP) took over review of erosion, sediment, and stormwater
control plans for natural gas drilling sites,many groups expressed concern. Now the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation (CBF) is challenging two permits in Tioga County contending
violations of both Commonwealth and federal laws. Not only did DEP
strip review authority from local County Conservation Districts in
April, but it instituted an expedited stormwater permitting process
that does not allow for public participation or meaningful agency
