Greene County Projects

 

Riverside Center for Innovation, Allegheny, Westmoreland, Greene, Clarion, Butler, Fayette, Armstrong and Washington Co, $5,000

Funded by: LWVPA-CEF WREN Project, Drinking Water Source Water Protection Project 2008- 2009

Project Title:  River Alert and Information Network (RAIN) Education and Outreach Program

River, stream, watershed affected by this project:  Allegheny, Youghiogheny, Monongahela and parts of the Ohio Rivers

Partners: River Alert and Information Network (RAIN) members and California University of Pennsylvania

Focus: educate and increase awareness of source water protection strategies via three major events (side 2) aimed at thirty-three drinking water suppliers in the Allegheny, Youghiogheny and Monongahela watersheds in eight southwest PA counties.

Greene Co. Conservation District, Greene County, $2,700

Septic System information flyerFunded by: LWVPA-CEF WREN Project, Watershed Protection Project 2004-2005
Project Title: The "Working" Workshop:  Streambank Stabilization and Restoration Practices
Area to be protected:  South Fork of the Ten Mile River watershed
Partners:  Natural Resources Conservation Service and Morgan Township Supervisors

Focus:  Develop an informational flyer on septic systems(front)  (back)    for the local Greene Saver which will reach 40,000 residents of Greene County.  The flyer will include information on septic system installation and maintenance, alternative systems and additional information for landowners.  It will also cover the impacts of failing on-lot systems and benefits to the watersheds and drinking water.

Project Title: Watershed Issues Via the Internet
Area(s) to be protected: Ohio River Basin (10 County Watersheds)

Focus: develop and maintain a website and distribute educational materials

Project Title: Educating and Evaluating the Watershed for Preservation Project

Focus: Develop a brochure and website that will feature results from stream testing in the watershed.

Focus: Travel to outlying Pittsburgh area regions via a Voyager vessel, equipped with a learning laboratory, to educate students of Greene Co about watersheds and environment in their area.
