Wayne County

Roamingwood Sewer & Water Association. Wayne County; $4,226

Funded by: LWVPA-CEF WREN Project, Drinking Water Source Protection Project 2006-2007
Project Title: Groundwater and Watersheds:  Teachers Workshops
Area to be protected: Wallenpaupack Creek Watershed
Partners:  Lacawac Sanctuary, The Hideout Community POA, Lake Township, Salem Township, Western Wayne School District, PA Rural Water Association, and Lake Wallenpaupack Water Management District

Focus: design and administer two 32-hour workshops along with Lacawac Sanctuary for teachers in the Wallenpaupack Creek watershed based on the TAPWater kit and program.  Workshop objectives include equipping teachers with tools and resources for shaping groundwater protection lessons in their schools.

Project Title: Source Water Protection Education Project
Area to be protected: Wallenpaupack Creek Watershed
Partners: The Hideout Community POA, Lake Township, Salem Township, Western Wayne School District, PA Rural Water Association, and Lake Wallenpaupack Water Management District
Focus: hold teacher and volunteer workshops, purchase groundwater simulators and EnviroScape models for the Association's speaker program, and produce large posters explaining the interaction between the water cycle and land use activities. The partnership will also distribute handouts and reference material to students and hold Triple E Award ceremony for teachers and students recognizing their efforts to educate about SWP.

Project Title: Source Water Protection Education Project
Area(s) to be protected: Wallenpaupack Creek Watershed
Partner(s): The Hideout Community POA, Lake Township, Salem Township, Western Wayne School District, Lake Wallenpaupack School District, and Lake Wallenpaupack Water Management District
Focus: initiate a Volunteer Environmental Educator Program, design curriculum and present a teacher workshop, and provide speakers and demonstrations of a customized groundwater simulator at schools, civic and business meetings, and fairs to raise awareness about source water protection

Project Title: Lackawaxen River Watershed Awareness Project
Area(s) to be protected: The Lackawaxen River Watershed
Partner(s): The Lackawaxen River Conservancy, Lackawaxen Township Supervisors & Pike County Conservation District
Focus: produce a variety of watershed educational materials
Counties served: Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike County Grant: $5,000

Pike County's Water Resources Education Program

Funded by: LWVPA-CEF WREN Project - Watershed Education for Pollution Prevention Projects - 2000

Area(s) to be protected: all Pike County High Quality and Exceptional Value Watersheds

Partners: Pike County Conservation District, and Pike County Penn State Extension Office

Focus: The coalition will conduct various water quality improvement related workshops geared towards citizens of Pike, Wayne, and Monroe Counties.
